42

Yesterday we went and saw 42. For those of you who don’t know (like I didn’t until about an hour before the movie) 42 is a movie about Jackie Robinson, the first African American man to play in Major League Baseball. 42 is Jackie Robinson’s number. It’s the only number in baseball that is retired by every single team.

Can I just say, the movie was incredible. The actors (Yes Harrison Ford was in it, and yes I am slightly in love with him even though he’s old) the dialogue, the action, everything was perfect. When I go see movies like that it makes me so sad about the past, but so hopeful for the future. It helps me see that someone can make a difference, that things can change for the better, and every individual matter. When I go see historical movies like that it makes me want to learn all I can about the people who  the stories are about. Ask my friends, they’ll tell you. For instance, in Europe I almost bought several books about Queen Elizabeth because I was so fascinated about her. But that’s a different story.

So the moral of the story is that you should go see 42. It’s an incredible story about a man that we don’t hear enough about.

Trust me, go see it. Even if you don’t like baseball (but really who doesn’t like baseball. It’s the American pastime.) It’ll make you look at things so differently.

WARNING if you go see this movie there is some profanity and especially lots of use of the N word. They do not condone the use of this word at all, but just be aware that it’s in there.

Month 4

It’s official, bring on month 4! Randy’s been out three months now, and they’ve been so hard but so great! He’s learning so much and I’m learning so much, and I’m loving being independent and being a crazy college girl! It’s so awesome. I am so proud of that boy and the person he’s becoming:)

As a crazy college girl, I cook for myself. Domestic right? So last night I made one of my favorite rice dishes and it’s always a hit at our apartment, so I thought I’d share it here! Presenting…..

This is so easy and so delicious!

Basic Rice Pilaf<!–[if supportFields]> XE “Rice:Basic Rice Pilaf” <![endif]–><!–[if supportFields]><![endif]–>

·         6 Tbs. margarine or butter  (can be reduced to 2 Tbs.)
·         2½ cup water
·         1 small Onion, diced
·         5 chicken bullion cubes
·         2 carrots, medium to large
·         3 cup Minute Rice
Sauté onion and carrots in margarine.  Coat rice with margarine-carrot-onion mixture.  Boil water and dissolve bullion cubes to make chicken broth.  Add broth to the rice mixture, bring to boil and turn off heat.  Cover and let sit for about 10 minutes.  Add cooked peas if desired. Serves six at 225 calories per serving.

Carrots, onions and butter all in the pot getting ready to cook!
I love Wyler’s Chicken Bullion cubes

All coated and ready for the water!
This recipe is seriously so good, not too unhealthy, and goes well with fried chicken (as seen above) or pork chops or just about anything!
Happy Tuesday everyone, and happy 3 months for me!

Top Knot

So I was pinning and blog stalking yesterday, and among the stalkage that was going on I found a bun called a top knot that was super cute that I actually liked! Back up….I am not a huge fan of buns. To me they are for ballet or dance or something like that. Some people totally pull them off, other people I’m all…ehhhhh better not. But after seeing this, I had to try it. And I gotta say, I really like it! Plus….after sleeping on it, it left me with the cutest waves and curls in my hair! I would TOTALLY recommend this top knot.

Now these pictures don’t do it justice. Just trust me

How to achieve this top knot? It’s seriously so easy I almost cried. You pull your hair back into a slick tight pony-tail, but don’t put the elastic around it. Then you begin twisting your hair into a coil until it starts wrapping around itself. You let it wrap around itself until you have the end left, then you just tuck the end through the middle and pull it tight! SO EASY right?
And I promise the beachy wave look that taking this out gives you is super cute! Unfortunately my camera died and I can’t show you:( But just trust me, you don’t want to miss it! Happy Tuesday everyone:)

Favorite Things

I have many favorite things. But one of my very, very, very, very favorites is shoes. Just ask my mom. She’ll tell you. People have misconceptions about shoes unfortunately, and I would like to give my opinion on what shoes you are allowed to where, when! Keep in mind, this is merely my opinion. Some of you probably dress a lot better than I do and will think this whole thing is crazy. Nevertheless, I shall carry on.

1. The Boot
Whether black or brown, the classy, dressy boot is a staple to a wardrobe. These can be worn literally in all seasons. Some of you are shocked right now thinking “IN THE SUMMER? WHAT IS SHE THINKING.” Yes. You can wear boots in the summer IF they are paired with the right outfit. A dress date you can rock jeans (black or blue,) a cute short sleeve top, and a pair of boots. Honest to goodness. You can do it. Boots are a classic fall and winter wear, but can also be worn with skirts in spring and summer, as well as in the above mentioned situation. Boots. Yes. Do it.
2. The Sandal
Sandals should be worn with caution only in the late spring/summer/early fall months. Once it gets too chilly outside, put them away! Sandals can be rocked with capris, long pants, and skirts. Just don’t wear a super casual pair with a super dressy outfit.
3. The High Heel
I may be a bit biased about heels, seeing as I LOVE THEM. But my opinion is that high heels can be worn during all months! Winter it’s a little more difficult, since there’s snow on the ground, but it can be done. I think heels should be worn with a dress or skirt, and can be used to dress up an outfit if you pair them with long jeans. I’m not a fan of heels and capris or shorts. Some people are though. It’s a personal problem. But a pair of black and nude heels are essential and can instantly class up any outfit.
4. The Ballet Flat
Ballet flats. One of the most versatile shoes out there. Wear them in all seasons, with most outfits (but not with something super casual. Like a hoodie. Or sweats.) Basically, in most situations, you can wear the ballet flat.
5. Casual shoes
Casual shoes are classified as Vans, Keds, Converse, Pumas, Tennis Shoes, Toms, etc. Casual shoes can be worn in all seasons with a variety of outfits, as long as they aren’t dressy. Basically we’re just using common sense. If you’re wearing a shirt with ruffles or a collar, casual shoes probably aren’t a good idea.
And that my friends, is my opinion on shoes.
